Barwon Health, based in Geelong and one of the largest and most comprehensive regional health services in Australia, is seeking exceptional medical practitioners to join us as Psychiatry Trainees from February 2018.

This is an exciting and rare opportunity to join Barwon Health’s 22 strong registrar workforce undertaking rotations across Barwon Health, Private Hospitals and Mercy Health in Werribee who are currently completing accredited psychiatry training with the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (RANZCP).

Specialist training positions available  

  • Are you a current RANZCP College Trainees or Unaccredited Registrars to join us for next year, commencing in February or August, for a 6 or 12 month contract?
  • Are you a Trainee wishing to transfer into our program? If so please submit your RANZCP college training transcript with your application.
  • We have vacancies that would be suitable for specialist trainees in Stage 3 of training, those seeking to undertake specialist training in general adult and eating disorders, and for unaccredited registrars. Unfortunately we are unable to accommodate trainees transferring in Stage 1 or 2 if they have not completed their C&L and CAMHS rotations.
  • We provide an extensive variety of core and non-core RANZCP training rotations, all of which are supervised by accredited RANZCP Consultant Psychiatrist Supervisors
  • We are also passionate about education and research, with a strong connection with Deakin University School of Medicine and the Deakin University Psychiatric Research Unit (IMPACT Strategic Research Centre: https://goo.gl/j9i8Oq)

General information for applicants

  • All applicants must be available to attend an interview in person.
  • All applicants must have general medical registration with the Australian Health Practitioners Regulatory Agency (AHPRA). Applicants who have been accepted for training by the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists or who are current Trainees will be given preference.
  • We will consider applications from candidates overseas seeking specified Specialist Training (see http://www.ranzcp.org/Pre-Fellowship/Overseas-specialists/Specified-Training.aspx.
  • We are not currently accepting exemption candidates unless you are transferring from an existing placement. Other overseas candidates following the AMC exam pathway will not be considered unless they fulfil the requirements for entry into training with RANZCP and have applied for entry into training to commence February 2017.

Please note that Registration as a trainee with RANZCP is desirable (not essential)
