The Apheresis Unit sits alongside Barwon Health’s busy inpatient haematology/oncology ward on Baxter 6. In addition to haemopoietic stem cell collections and coordinating autologous stem cell transplants for approximately 40 patients per year, the unit also provides a therapeutic apheresis service for the wider Barwon South West region.

About the Role

The Cancer Nurse Coordinator works in partnership with multi-disciplinary teams to contribute to the continuity and quality of care for patients diagnosed with Cancer. The Transplant and Apheresis Coordinator strives to ensure the effective provision of patient focused, holistic nursing care incorporating support of patients undergoing therapeutic and cellular apheresis therapies in order to achieve and maintain quality patient and optimal clinical outcomes. The role is responsible for coordinating care and education of patients undergoing autologous and allogeneic haemopoietic cell transplantation, encompassing all aspects from pre transplant work up through to long term follow up and immunisation. The level of intervention by the coordinator will vary according to the complexity of care required, based on individual patient needs in their care.
