About the Barwon Early Parenting Centre

Opening in the first half of 2024, the Barwon Early Parenting Centre will provide specialist support and deliver flexible, targeted services for families with children 0–4 years old.

The centre aims to enhance the parent-child relationship and support parents with strategies for achieving their parenting goals. These goals are often in areas such as sleep and settling, child behaviour, and parent and child health and wellbeing.

These goals are achieved through structured programs that vary from residential, day stay and in-home support. Programs include:

  • psychosocial, physical and developmental assessments
  • parenting education
  • counselling
  • skills development
  • play-based activities
  • modelling effective behaviours

The Barwon Early Parenting Centre is located within the McKellar Centre precinct on Ballarat Road in North Geelong.

About the role

The Associate Nurse Unit Manager (ANUM) provides delegation and supervision and support to those of shift - Early Parenting Practitioners, Registered Nurses and other and other support staff, in ensure the delivery of early parenting services to families is meeting the needs of the consumer. In addition, they ensure effective and efficient utilisation of resources in the provision and delivery of high quality parenting service to mothers, fathers, parents, carers, families and their children and deliver early parenting programs that meet staff, client and stakeholders’ objectives. The position supports the smooth operation of the EPC’s services through provision of high quality Nursing, Allied Health and Medical care.

Essential: Holds an accredited postgraduate degree/diploma (or equivalent) in Maternal and Child Health Nursing and/or Midwifery and/or Paediatric / Special Care / Mental Health experience
Essential: Extensive clinical knowledge, experience and skills in working with families, women and children, including an understanding of the impact of vulnerability and trauma.
Essential: A strong background of working in partnership with mothers, fathers, parents, carers, families, babies, toddlers and other children.
Desirable: Experience in working with mothers, fathers, parents, carers, families, babies, toddlers and their other children who have multiple and complex issues including relationship difficulties.
Desirable: A strong clinical knowledge in the health and family services sector.
