Position Summary

We are currently seeking experienced Nurse Practitioners who are interested in joining the brand new Barwon Health North Urgent Care Centre.

There are x2 permanent opportunities available at the Urgent Care Centre in Geelong, Victoria.

  • 1 x Permanent Full time  80 hrs per fortnight including an ADO a month
  • 1 x Permanent Part time 40 hrs per fortnight

Barwon Health is one of the largest and most comprehensive regional health services in Australia, providing care at all stages of life and circumstance. Health services available through Barwon Health cover the full spectrum from primary care, community services, aged care, rehabilitation, mental health, emergency and acute care. There are approximately 7000 staff across 24 locations, including University Hospital, McKellar Centre, Community Health Centres, Alan David Lodge and Barwon Health North.

Barwon Health North opened in early January 2020 and is a $30 million two storey facility in the Northern Suburbs of Geelong. Barwon Health North provides accessible healthcare close to home and to public transport bridging the gap between the acute settings at the University Hospital Geelong by providing the following services

We are looking for Nurse Practitioners to utilise their advanced scope of practice in an extended nursing role. You would be required to work autonomously and collaboratively within a team, and must have an advanced level of decision-making that will be pivotal in providing timely access to high quality and responsive care in the Urgent Care Centre.

This role will be a part of the North Area Health Team, and care will be delivered by a team of nursing professionals, supported by remote specialist advice from the Barwon Health Emergency Department (ED) and inpatient teams accessed by Tele-Health.

About the Barwon Health North Urgent Care Centre and the role

The Nurse Practitioner Urgent Care Centre will provide evidence based care in an ambulatory setting; to patients in consultation with Medical Practitioner and other health care providers in a diverse community. The Nurse Practitioner has a clinical leadership role in the program. Leading the clinical team in providing evidence based care and assisting with the development of all clinical team members. There is a requirement that they be an Endorsed Nurse Practitioner who is experienced and confident to function autonomously and collaboratively in an advanced and extended clinical role within their scope of practise, providing innovative and flexible health solutions, whilst being a clinical leader influencing and progressing evidence based clinical practises and procedures. Specifically this will be achieved by:

Providing leadership, guidance and accountability pertaining to clinical standards to achieve high quality health care.

Demonstrating behaviours and attitudes that are consistent with Barwon Health's values and strategic plan and professional nursing philosophy.

Supporting the relevant Managers to build and maintain high performing clinical team that operates within a performance framework to drive a culture of accountability, best practice and innovation.

Fostering a culture of ongoing development and improvement.

The Barwon Health Urgent Care Centre provides a valuable service for consumers requiring non-emergency ambulatory care in the Northern Suburbs of Geelong. It is not to substitute normal primary care otherwise provided within General Practice.  The Urgent Care Centre will provide ready-access to urgent care for lower acuity conditions that traditionally result in an unnecessary emergency department episode at the University Hospital Geelong.

The onsite facilities include diagnostic capability for both Imaging and limited Point-of-Care Pathology. Image reporting will be completed by the day Registrar onsite with remote reporting of imaging after-hours. Pathology collection services for a broader range of pathology services are available at all hours. The Urgent Care Centre will build strong relationships with external service providers including local GPs, community pharmacy and a range of other community and emergency services.

The Barwon Health North Urgent Care Centre will open doors to the public 8AM – 10PM 7days a week. There will be 14 shifts a week available for Nurse Practitioners plus leave cover. Full time and part time hours available.
