About the facility

The new look Barwon Health Library at the University Hospital Geelong is now open in a refurbished heritage building. Technology-rich facilities will assist in delivering integrated library, research and education functions. There is potential to engage with consumers in developing health promotion and literacy activities, while showcasing Barwon Health research.

About the role

The Clinical Librarian provides consultancy, advice and clinical liaison in the management and delivery of highly specialised expert reference and literature research services, and academic health information literacy (user education) programs for all Barwon Health clinicians, clinical educators, researchers, students on clinical placements and other eligible university and regional partners. This is a senior position and the incumbent will be required to perform at a consistently high level appropriate to the demands of a major university teaching and referral hospital.

Selection Criteria Essential: Degree or post-graduate qualifications in librarianship and eligibility for Associate (professional) membership of the Australian Library and Information Association.
Desirable: Relevant higher degree by research (Masters or progress towards a PhD).
Essential: Extensive experience (and meets classification definitions under appropriate Award/Agreement) in a teaching hospital library, health research or university library.
Essential: Expert knowledge of the principles and practice of evidence-based health care, with high level health reference and literature research skills required to design expert search strategies, critically appraise the health literature and support literature reviews.
Essential: Extensive experience and knowledge of specialised health bibliographic and full text knowledge resources and reference materials (eg PubMed/Medline, Cinahl, PsycInfo, Embase, Cochrane, UpToDate).
Essential: Extensive experience in developing, delivering and evaluating health information literacy education programs for clinicians.
Essential: Experience using specialised reference/research information management systems, including citation management software (eg Mendeley, RefWorks, EndNote), reference management systems (eg RefTracker), bibliometric/altmetric analysis tools (eg Scopus, GoogleScholar).
Essential: Ability to use communication and interpersonal skills to work collaboratively with clinicians, academics, researchers and other health information professionals in multi-disciplinary teams.
Essential: Understanding of the sensitivity and confidential nature of health information.
Desirable: Experience in conducting systematic reviews of the health literature.
Desirable: Experience in developing, delivering and evaluating health reference/literature research services for consumers
