About the facility
The Hospital Acute Intervention Service team is a 7 day a week, 24 hour service with three shifts. The team is a tertiary level, multidisciplinary mental health, drugs and alcohol assessment team.
The Emergency Mental Health team’s aim is to provide timely and effective mental health and drugs and alcohol assessments for all consumers and their families who present to the emergency department with acute mental health/drug and alcohol presentations and crisis. This service may be delivered as part of the MHAOD Hub, or within the Emergency Department more broadly. Clinicians also provide mental health assessment and treatment alongside Victoria Police (PACER) in the community
About the role
The Alcohol and Other Drugs Consultation Liaison (AOD CL) nurse provides care and linkages for people in Barwon Health bed -based (generalist) settings who are experiencing concerns related to their substance use. The AOD CL nurse aims to
- Improve outcomes by working directly with patients and indirectly through increasing the capacity of staff to recognise and attend to the needs of patients with concerns related to their substance use in these settings.
- Works with patients and their relatives providing expert assessment and intervention; providing guidance, education and support to generalist staff caring for the patient and collaborating with them in developing a plan of care;
- Acts as a positive role model, working with the organisation as a resource on substance use related projects, education and policy development; and acting as a link between generalist and alcohol and other drug services (public and private, hospital and community).
