About the facility
Barwon Health, based in Geelong, Victoria, is one of the largest and most comprehensive regional health services in Australia, providing the full spectrum from primary care, community services, aged care, rehabilitation, mental health, emergency and acute care and employing over 9,000 staff. Barwon Health is a major teaching hospital for the Deakin Medical School and has an active and growing research base. Consultation Liason team operates 7am - 10pm 7 days per week.
About the role
The Consultation Liaison (CL) nurse provides care and linkages for people in Barwon Health bed -based (generalist) settings who are experiencing concerns related to their metnal health.
The CL nurse aims to:
- Improve outcomes by working directly with patients and indirectly through increasing the capacity of staff to recognise and attend to the needs of patients with concerns related to their mental health.
- Works with patients and their relatives providing expert assessment and intervention; providing guidance, education and support to generalist staff caring for the patient and collaborating with them in developing a plan of care;
- Acts as a positive role model, working with the organisation as a resource on mental health related projects, education and policy development; and acting as a link between generalist and community mental health (public and private, hospital and community).
