About the service

The Barwon Health Eating Disorder Service is a specialist multidisciplinary team providing assessment and treatment to young people (0-25 years) and their families presenting with an eating disorder, or at risk of an eating disorder. The team is located within the Child and Youth Mental Health, Drugs and Alcohol program. While the service provides community treatment, there is a strong focus on secondary consultation to the broader service, public and private sector.

This role is based on the paediatric ward of University Hospital and will be integrated into the Eating Disorder Service, with the capacity to provide care within the paediatric eating disorders hospital in the home (HITH) program.

About the role

This newly created position offers the opportunity to bridge the gap between community and inpatient treatment by providing a step-up or step-down response from the acute setting, by delivering meal support, conducting medical observations and assisting families in the home.                                                         

Your core duties are:

  • Providing expert specialist mental health assessment and intervention to patients with eating disorders and their families.
  • Co-ordinating assessment of eligibility for paediatric eating disorders hospital in the home (HITH) program.
  • This role also has demonstrates leadership by providing education and consultation to internal and external stakeholders, along with the ongoing development of the paediatric eating disorder HITH program.
