About the Facility

The cardiothoracic unit performs a wide range of complex cardiothoracic surgical procedures including bypass grafts, valve repair/replacement, minimally invasive cardiac surgery and aortic procedures.  University Hospital Geelong is one of only two Tier 2 ECMO services in the state managing VA, VV and eCPR patients.

The perfusion unit is about to transition to 2 state-of-the-art Liva Nova Essenz Heart Lung Machines.

About the role 

Take on the vital role of overseeing the setup and functionality of the heart-lung bypass machine, along with managing related equipment, during cardiothoracic surgeries and within intensive care settings. Offer perfusion expertise across a diverse range of surgical procedures, encompassing minimally invasive cardiac surgery.

Collaborate seamlessly within a multidisciplinary team, contributing to the delivery of advanced ECMO care at a heightened level, including VA, VV, and eCPR modalities, as an integral part of a comprehensive state-wide ECMO service. Contribute to the expansion of a thriving cardiac surgical unit as it continues to grow and evolve.

Desirable: Masters of Perfusion
Desirable: Experience in Veno-venous and Veno-arterial Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation
Desirable: Experience with Intra Aortic Balloon Pumps
Desirable: Experience with Minimally Invasive Cardiac Surgery Perfusion techniques
Desirable: Experience with Autologous Cell Salvage
Desirable: Experience with Point of Care testing devices including TEG
