About the facility

Barwon Health’s Nutrition & Dietetics Department provides services across the care continuum including Acute Care based at University Hospital Geelong, and Rehabilitation, Subacute and Aged Care based at McKellar Centre. Our team consists of 20 FTE Dietitians and 2.4 FTE Dietitian Assistants across both sites. We provide dietetic services to inpatients and outpatients across all clinical specialties according to current best practice and professional standards. We work collaboratively across sites, as well as with our community-based colleagues. Our staff pursue clinical excellence, consumer-centred care and interdisciplinary teamwork. Additionally, the Nutrition and Dietetics Department provides clinical placements for dietetics students, co-ordinated by our Student Placement Co-ordinator and has a strong relationship with Food Services via our Food Service Dietitian.

About the role 

An exciting opportunity exists for an experienced dietitian to join our dynamic Barwon Health Diabetes Service. The successful applicant will play a pivotal role in delivering expert diabetes care and education whilst also assisting with the implementation of an innovative new model of care for women with gestational diabetes. This model incorporates dietitian-led patient monitoring, group education and new technology-based solutions to enable patient-centred care.

The Senior Diabetes Dietitian will:

  • Provide high quality care to patients in our Diabetes Services, including women with gestational diabetes, and provide professional leadership within their clinical specialty.
  • Work in collaboration with the Nurse Unit Manager of Diabetes Services and all other stakeholders to develop, monitor and improve clinical service provision including the new gestational diabetes program consistent with the objectives of the Barwon Health strategic plan
  • Support students, Grade 1 and Grade 2 dietitians through clinical supervision and training.

Essential: Eligibility for Accredited Practising Dietitian (APD) status
Essential: Minimum of 7 years post graduate clinical experience
Essential: Demonstrated experience in the clinical care setting, including clinical expertise in the nutrition care of people with Diabetes Mellitus.
Essential: Experience in supervising both Dietetic students and Grade 1 & 2 dietitians.
Essential: Experience in service development and quality improvement.
Essential: Competent in Microsoft/IT applications and clinical databases
Essential: Ability to manage a demanding workload and prioritise accordingly
Essential: Ability to work effectively as a member of a multidisciplinary team and contribute to a positive team environment
Desirable: Credentialled Diabetes Educator, or progressing towards
Desirable: Post graduate training or qualifications, or a willingness to undertake
Desirable: Involvement in research and/or translation activities
Desirable: Experience with developing and delivering group education to patients/clients
Desirable: Current Victorian driver’s license or equivalent
