About the facility

Operating Services at Barwon Health consists of 14 Operating theatres and one endoscopy suite across three points of care; Main Theatre, Gretta Volum Centre & Building B. At Barwon Health we operate on an average of 22,000 procedures a year and across of vast array of surgical specialities; Cardiothoracic, Cardiology, ENT, General Surgery, Gastroenterology, Gynaecology & Obstetrics, Oral Faciomaxillary, Ophthalmology, Orthopaedic, Vascular, Urology & Plastics.

Operating 24/7 with on call provisions, our Main Theatre suite provides high quality of care in a fast-paced environment for elective and emergency surgery management.

About the role 

Being the Associate Nurse Unit Manager of the Cardiothoracic and Vascular Scrub/Scout Nursing team at Barwon Health University Hospital Geelong means playing an integral role in an exciting, close knit and supportive group, within a very worthwhile and rewarding specialty. Living and working in Geelong provides many wonderful lifestyle opportunities with the beautiful Surf coast beaches and the city of Melbourne right on our doorstep.

In our Cardiac operating theatres, we strive to work collaboratively, with a key focus on team culture. We are proud to foster exceptional relationships between Nursing staff, Surgeons, specialised Cardiac Anaesthetists, and our Perfusion team. Our aim is to promote a supportive environment, to develop and diversify the skills of any new team member. We pride ourselves on our high level of knowledge and skills relating to cardiac procedures and the vital role of the scrub Nurse within our speciality. The cardiac environment can at times be intense; however, it is through this collaborative and supportive team environment that we excel in delivering best patient care and outcomes.

Perioperative nurse with Management and/or Postgraduate qualifications in the relevant area will be highly regarded.  You must have an excellent communication skills, are well organised and have good time management. 

 You will demonstrate the ability to:

  • Deliver consumer centred care that meets best practice standards and in line with Barwon Health requirements
  • Establish and maintain effective communication within a multi-disciplinary team so that patients receive quality ongoing care
  • Facilitate service coordination where possible to ensure broader health and well-being issues are supported
