We are seeking experienced Mental Health Clinicians to join our Acute Intervention Services (AIS)  team on a casual basis. This is an exciting and unique opportunity to experience every aspect of our AIS (phone triage, community outreach, hospital EMH & PACER) without having to commit to one department or to set hours.

About the service

Our Mental Health Drug & Alcohol Service provides integrated and recovery oriented mental health, drugs and alcohol assessment, treatment and community support to people of all ages within the Barwon region experiencing, or at risk of experiencing, mental health and drug & alcohol issues, and their families.

About the units

Emergency Mental Health

Our multidisciplinary Emergency Mental Health (EMH) unit provides assessment and treatment across the Hospital Emergency Department and PACER teams, and is often the first point of access for our mental health consumers. Our EMH unit is forward thinking, supports and drives change, whilst always actively looking for ways to make improvements. Working in this team you will deliver timely and effective mental health and drug and alcohol assessments for all consumers and their families who present to the emergency department & hubs with acute mental health/drug and alcohol presentations and crisis.

Community Acute Outreach

The Community – Acute Intervention Service is a 7-day-a-week service. The team is a tertiary-level multidisciplinary mental health drug and alcohol team. Its aim is to provide timely and effective assessment, treatment and assertive support for individuals aged 16 years and older with high acuity mental health and/or AOD needs up to a maximum of a 28-day period.  In this team you will provide acute community assessment and treatment for people in the acute phase of their mental illness and/or alcohol and other drug (AOD) use and assist with the day-to-day operations of the team.

Phone Triage

Our aim is to provide timely and effective phone based assessment to triage the mental health and/or drug and alcohol needs of consumers and their families. Referrals come from consumers, carers or other stakeholders calling in via a central intake phone number. Working in this team you will have highly proficient phone triage skills to complete an assessment of consumer needs and refer onto the most appropriate service.

About the role

To perform this role, you will need to be a senior mental health clinician with formal professionally recognised qualifications in Psychiatric Nursing, Occupational Therapy, Social Work or Clinical Psychology, including full registration with AHPRA for relevant disciplines. Successful applicants will also need to have demonstrated advance level of clinical skills in the assessment and treatment of people with mental health and substance use disorders in a community setting.

With varying shift times from early/mid-morning, afternoons and through to night shift, staff can tailor a work plan that fits their family and social needs.
