Part of a Team

The department provides a broad range of endocrinology training and supports two accredited register position (1 RCY and 1 Core) as well as a Fellow in Endocrinology that can be accredited as an elective year.  The endocrine Unit has 6 inpatient beds used for the management of diabetes and endocrine emergencies, diabetic foot patients, eating disorder patients and supports a busy inpatient consultative service.  Trainees attend onsite ambulatory services, outreach clinics and specialised clinics at other health services as well as attending unit educational meetings.  Research activities are supported with access to the large databases of the Geelong Osteoporosis Study and Geelong Bone Density Service.  The department has a strong commitment to excellence in clinical, education and research activities and a strong focus on preparing senior trainees for consultant or academic careers.

Applications are invited for advanced trainees or fellows to join our friendly and supportive department.  The department currently employs 12 consultants who provide an inpatient services on a ward service arrangement and ambulatory services through the Diabetes Referral Centre and onsite consulting rooms with a General Endocrinology Clinic under development.

The unit provides exposure to:

  • diabetes management in adults
  • pre-conception planning and diabetes in pregnancy
  • thyroid disorders
  • metabolic bone disease
  • adrenal disorders
  • other endocrine disorders
  • fortnightly attendance at the St Vincent's Hospital Pituitary Clinic and a General Endocrinology Clinic in Ballarat. 

The unit participates in a monthly Multidisciplinary Thyroid Cancer Meeting, twice weekly clinical/journal club meetings as well as a weekly Unit Radiology Meeting and links to the Monash Diabetes Education Meeting and Melbourne interhospital journal club.

Opportunities exist to attend quarterly Paediatric Endocrinology clinicsand Monash IVF Clinics.

Research opportunities exist for projects drawing data from the Geelong Osteoporosis Study, a population-based cohort study that has been running for 30 years and interogation of the Geelong Bone Density databases.

Applicants must have completed the FRACP Part 1 examination or equivalent
