We are seeking a Nurse Unit Manager to oversee the implementation and operational management of our newly developed McKellar Mental Health & Wellbeing Centre. The 16-bed unit has been thoughtfully developed in response to the Royal Commission and will provide specialised mental health care for older adult (50 years +), including those with complex mental health and general health co-morbidities. This leadership position offers a rare opportunity to manage a unit from the establishment stage through to it being fully operational (mid-2022).
About the new facility
Barwon Heath Mental Health Drugs & Alcohol Services are actively building upon our nationally recognised reputation for innovative clinical programs and integrated models of practice that are consumer-centred, accessible and family inclusive. From the recent Royal Commission, we have been fortunate to receive funding for a new 16-bed Older Adult Acute Mental Health Unit, which is currently being built on our McKellar site. This contemporary designed facility has a co-designed model of care that is recovery oriented and trauma informed. It will provide clinical inpatient care for consumers aged 50 years+ with acute and sub-acute needs, with onsite facilities for outpatient appointments.
About the Role
This NUM position will incorporate providing leadership and operational management of the centre from its current development phase to the opening of the unit in mid-2022. You will be required to implement Barwon Health’s Mental Health Directorate contemporary vision for inpatient service delivery, which has been purposively co-designed by service users (consumers and carers) and service providers. This vision includes instilling a recovery oriented, consumer centred approach to service delivery, with an active therapeutic group program, a range of multidisciplinary assessments and treatments, and a peer support program. The role will also include bed-flow coordination responsibility to ensure those most in need have timely access to beds. There will be the opportunity to provide continuous improvement initiatives within the service and to work with the Acute Intervention Services leadership team to provide relevant quality reporting, business planning and service development.
