About the facility

The new McKellar Mental Health & Wellbeing Unit was developed in considered response to the Royal Commission and commenced operations in September 2022. It is a contemporary designed facility with a co-designed model of care that is recovery oriented and trauma informed. This 16 bed unit provides specialised mental health care for older adult (50 years +), including those with complex mental health and general health co-morbidities, with onsite facilities for outpatient appointments.

About you

  • Experienced Occupational Therapist with a professionally recognised qualification
  • Demonstrated advanced level of clinical skills in the provision of discipline specific assessment and interventions for people with acute mental health and substance use disorders
  • Experience in supervision of allied health staff
  • Experience in facilitating psychosocial group programmes

About the role

As a Psychosocial and Discharge Coordinator, you will be part of the senior allied health staff who oversee the provision of 7-day a week allied health coverage and therapeutic psychosocial programme provision, whilst also ensuring that the discharge needs of consumers are provided for. You will provide supervision to the grade 2 and graduate occupational therapy staff, and work closely with the Clinical Nurse Consultant, Clinical Nurse Specialists and the senior Social Worker, to maintain a therapeutic environment across the ward. Other duties include;

  • Providing OT specific assessments and interventions using evidence-based practices
  • Referring and linkages to appropriate support options
  • Provision of culturally appropriate and family inclusive services responsive to individual needs
