Part of a Team
You’ll be part of a 17-strong junior paediatric team (two paediatric fellows, six paediatric registrars, two GP trainee and seven residents) supported by an engaged consultant group with responsibility for a 24 bed inpatient ward and 13 bed Level 5 Nursery managing inborn deliveries from 31 weeks gestation, as well as direct involvement in management of 1-3 intensive care paediatric patients in a mixed adult-paediatric ICU service.
Outpatient and community paediatric clinic opportunities are diverse and depending on role, trainees have the opportunity to undertake supervised experience in Immigrant Health, Wathaurong (Indigenous Health), and Paediatric Rehabilitation as well as General Paediatric Review clinics.
Our service has close links with the Child Health Research Unit at Barwon Health (CHERUB) within the Deakin University and clinical rostering has been arranged in such a way as to allow and encourage the pursuit of a research project or quality assurance project during your placement with us.
About the Role
This role as Senior Paediatric Registrar is allocated to a more advanced paediatric trainee who takes on a leadership role in the rotating paediatric registrar role (one of six registrars). In addition to contributing to the inpatient clinical responsibilities as described above, the senior registrar is provided the opportunity to see community outpatient referrals under the supervision of one of the consultants (to contribute towards their outpatient logbook requirement); as well as assuming a number of non-clinical responsibilities.
This role is accredited with the RACP for 6 months of General Paediatrics (Advanced Training) (or 12 months by negotiation). Please note that this position is not accredited for Rural Training.
A minimum of six (6) months experience in a tertiary neonatal service is a requisite for this position.
