About the Facility 

Barwon health is the major regional health provider for the Barwon South West region. It is Victoria’s largest regional health service with one of the busiest hospitals in the state, University Hospital. We provide care at all stages or life and circumstance through a wide range of services from emergency and acute to mental health, primary care, community services, aged care, and subacute/rehabilitation. About Operating Services

Barwon Health’s Operating Services includes 3 points of care; Main theatres, Gretta Volum Centre and now Building B. Between the 3 points of care there are 16 theatres and one endoscopy suite, we perform approximately 22,000 procedures per year from specialities such as; Cardiothoracic, ENT, Gastroenterology, General Surgery, Gynaecology & Obstetrics, Oral Faciomaxillary, Plastics, Orthopaedic, Ophthalmology, Urology, Vascular and Robotic Surgery.

About the role

To provide leadership in the planning and delivery of high quality Theatre Technician assistance within Operating Services whilst developing a professional and collaborative partnership across all areas of the directorate.

Main responsibilities include:

  • Supervise staff members to ensure quality service provision to Operating Services staff and patients
  • Regularly monitor and assess performance of staff to provide constructive feedback and identify development needs
  • Undertake Performance Development Reviews with staff to set direction and identify training and development reviews
  • Display team focused enthusiasm and maintains a consistent presence on the floor to promote leadership
  • Daily staff allocations/Roster
  • Purchase of replacement equipment within budgetary requirements
  • Reporting and subsequent monitoring of maintenance and repairs to equipment and theatre fixtures and fittings
  • Responsible for the recruitment, selection and onboarding of staff in accordance with Barwon Health’s Recruitment policies and procedures

Essential: Certificate IV in Health Services Assistance (Operating Theatre Support) awarded by a Registered Training Organisation
Desirable: Certificate IV in Frontline Management (or equivalent) awarded by a Registered Training Organisation
Desirable: Certificate IV Training & Assessment awarded by a Registered Training Organisation
Desirable: Completed specialty training in areas such as cell saving, Robot, plaster, laser, stealth, organ retrieval or spinal care
Essential: Demonstrated exceptional communication and organisational skills
Essential: Proven ability to work effectively as part of a team, and independently
Essential: Demonstrated years’ experience working as a Grade 5/6 Theatre Technician
Essential: Proficient computer skills with demonstrated knowledge of relevant networked programs
Essential: Willing to participate in on the job training and/or specific skills education as required
Essential: Ability to manage conflict resolution whilst maintaining confidentiality
Essential: Team leader/management experience
Essential: Experience working in all areas of the operating suite with comprehensive knowledge and ability to work within each of the Theatre Technician clinical specialties
Desirable: Sound knowledge of Barwon Health information systems
