Part of a Team
The Critical Care stream for HMO3 rotates through a vast range of Units where you will get a broad perspective of all of the critical care services that University Hospital Geelong offer.
You will be an integral member of the team working alongside accredited and unaccredited registrars and consultant staff. Positioned next to Deakin University Clinical School you can gain experience in supervision and teaching of students both on the ward and in the classroom. The Medical Education Special Interest group runs the 'Near Peer teaching Program' and provides Teaching on The Run courses and mentorship in simulation teaching.
About the Role
The HMO3 Critical Care stream pathway offers many training experiences, suitable to your specific needs.
The year planner includes 2 terms of your choice (preference), 1 term at Hamilton Hospital and 1 cover term including nights and a 5 week block of annual leave.
These Critical Care positions include rotations in Anaesthetics, ICU, Cardiology, and Emergency Department along with one of our Regional partners in Hamilton, Emergency Medicine. If you are interested in the Emergency Medicine Certificate (EMC) please identify this preference when answering the key selection criteria.
The Critical Care Year plus the Emergency Medicine Certificate will be offered by the Australasian College of Emergency Medicine (ACEM). The Emergency Medicine Certificate (EMC) Training Program provides doctors working in Emergency Departments (EDs) with adequate knowledge and sufficient clinical experience to be safe and efficient practitioners. The EMC is a six-month competency-based training program conducted in an Emergency Setting under the supervision of an approved EMC Supervisor. The position offered includes 3 months at UHG ED under direct supervision of a FACEM and 3 months at the Hamilton Base hospital. The UHG FACEMs visit Hamilton Base Hospital on a monthly basis and are available weekly to review and discuss cases. The EMC can also be the pathway to complete a Diploma in Emergency Medicine also offered by ACEM.
