In this new era of mental health service reform, Barwon Health’s MHDAS are transforming our services and we are seeking mental health professionals who are curious, passionate, and eager to advance their career.  We are currently seeking a Clinical Nurse Consultant for a newly developed 16 bed unit that will provide specialised mental health care for older adult (50 years +), including those with complex mental health and general health co-morbidities. The position offers a unique opportunity for a senior nurse to utilise their clinical & leadership experience within a new team and service.

About the new facility

Barwon Heath’s Mental Health Drugs & Alcohol Services are actively building upon our nationally recognised reputation for innovative clinical programs and integrated models of practice that are consumer centred, accessible and family inclusive. In response to the Royal Commission, a 16 bed Older Adult Acute Mental Health is currently being developed on our McKellar site. This new contemporary designed facility has a co-designed model of care that is recovery oriented and trauma informed. It will provide clinical inpatient care for consumers aged 50 years+ with acute and sub-acute needs, with onsite facilities for outpatient appointments.

About the role

You will work closely with the Nurse Unit Manager (NUM) in developing, maintaining and evaluating specialist bed-based program. Core responsibilities include:

  • Demonstrating superior consolidated clinical skills at a proficient level
  • Demonstrating and upholding best practice nursing care and recovery standards
  • Collaborating with the NUM and other nurse educators to contribute towards an appropriately skilled workforce
  • Providing mentoring to junior nurses & recent recruits, with a focus on bed-based nursing development to address priority issues on the wards
  • Working as part of the inpatient team and collaborating with the extended multidisciplinary team’s clinical quality and risk.

The purpose of this role is to provide a consultancy service regarding specialist programs within the mental health bed-based services and will not require supervision duties of the NUM or bed-based staff.
