Part of a Team

The General stream for HMO3 rotates through a vast range of Units where you will get a broad perspective of all of the services that the University Hospital Geelong, McKellar centre and Colac hospital offer.  You will be an integral member of the team working alongside accredited and unaccredited registrars and consultant staff.  Positioned next to Deakin University Clinical School you can gain experience in supervision and teaching of students both on the ward and in the classroom.  The Medical Education Special Interest group runs the 'Near Peer teaching Program' and provides Teaching on The Run courses and mentorship in simulation teaching. 

About the Role

The Diploma of Obstetrics general stream pathway offers the opportunity to gain skills in obstetrics & gynaecology that will enable you to safely undertake non-complex deliveries and perform basic gynaecological procedures. It is designed to allow completion of the DRANZCOG or Certificate of Women’s Health over the 6 month rotation. It is suited to doctors interested in practicing in Women’s health such as but not limited to intention to apply for training to RANZCOG College as a specialist or for GPs who intend to be comfortable with the topic in either a procedural or clinic setting.

Along with you six month rotation in obstetrics & gynaecology your other six months consist of opportunities for rotations in Emergency, Paediatrics, ICU, Geriatrics, Psychiatry (Community or Inpatient rotations available) and a mandatory rotation at Colac Area Health Service.

The year planner includes 2 terms of your choice (preference), 1 mandatory term in Colac and 1 cover term including a 5 week block of annual leave.

Our HMO3 Diploma of Obstetrics year is based at University Hospital Geelong, McKellar Centre or Colac Area Health.
