About the facility 

Barwon Health is the largest regional health service in Victoria, providing care for approximately 66,000 emergency presentations per year. Under Barwon Health’s emergency model of care, patients are streamed to dedicated assessment areas including fast track, adult, paediatric, resuscitation, trauma and mental health areas. The emergency department will be expanding the adult short stay unit and creating a new paediatric short stay unit to ensure consumers receive the right care, in the right time and in the right place. Our mission is to improve access and patient flow to provide a sustainable service that ensures high quality, safe, consumer-focused care. Our Emergency Department provides comprehensive care to the Barwon Community and has a well-established and successful regional service, dedicated to ensuring a high quality service in accordance with the Barwon Health Strategic Direction and Business Plan.

About the role 

In the role of ED Ward clerk you will provide efficient administration assistance to the nurse coordinator and consultant in charge, provide accurate data entry in compliance with reporting standards and provide prompt equitable and accurate customer services in a professional, courteous and helpful manner, ensuring consumer focused standards are continuously maintained.

As this role will entail the coverage of ED clerk planned and unplanned leave, candidates will require flexibility with availability and willingness to work day/afternoon and night shift.

Selection Criteria Essential: Demonstrated experience in a challenging consumer focused environment
Essential: Previous employment in an administrative/clerical role
Essential: Computer literacy and the ability to learn specialist programs used within the Emergency Department
Essential: Flexibility to work rostered shifts and additional hours to meet departmental needs
Essential: Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Desirable: Previous experience using the Barwon Health’s computer programs
Desirable: Previous experience in a medical environment or health insurance industry
Desirable: Knowledge of public hospital admission rules
Desirable: Knowledge of TAC or work cover processes
Desirable: Familiarity with medical terminology
