About the facility 

Barwon Health (BMI) will utilise the existing medical imaging department at Colac Area Health (CAH) to implement an additional imaging service aligning the standard of imaging with the existing BMI services across all sites.

BMI - Colac Area Health will provide an accessible and equitable imaging service including DR X-ray, OPG, mobile X-ray, theatre, CT and Ultrasound to the Colac Otway region.

Barwon Medical Imaging provides a comprehensive range of diagnostic services at other sites University Hospital Geelong, Barwon Health North, Grace McKellar Centre and Torquay. These include X-Ray, OPG, CT, MRI, Ultrasound, Fluoroscopy, Angiography, Mammography, and Nuclear Medicine. These are performed by a team of highly skilled radiologists, radiographers, sonographers, nuclear medicine technologists, nurses and support staff who ensure that all patients have access to quality services.

About the role 

As a radiographer at Colac Area Health you will assist the site supervisor to provide the services of X-ray, OPG and CT. The service includes afterhours/on call imaging for a 7 day per week service. This is an exciting opportunity to be involved in providing imaging services to the greater Colac Otway region.

About the Colac Region

  • Colac is situated between Geelong and Camperdown on a huge rich volcanic plain. The area is mainly used for agricultural and pastoral purposes, and is surrounded by many large lakes and volcanic craters.
  • Colac fronts the southern shores of Lake Colac - the largest natural freshwater lake in Victoria. This lake is popular with swimmers and boating enthusiasts, and includes a number of foreshore walking trails, jetties and boat ramps. There is a bird reserve in the wetlands off The Esplanade which attracts a diverse range of bird life to the lake.
  • Access to the Great Ocean Road, the Great Otway National Park and Cape Otway from Colac is via the road south to Lavers Hill.

Essential: Demonstrate a broad range of knowledge, experience and competency in all routine medical imaging examinations including X-ray, CT, mobile X-ray and theatre
