In this new era of mental health service reform, Barwon Health’s MHDAS are transforming our services and we are seeking mental health nurses who are curious, passionate, and eager to advance their career. Early recruitment is now underway for Associate Nurse Unit Managers (RPN3) to join the newly developed 16 bed acute unit, that will provide specialised mental health care for older adults (50 years+), including those with complex mental health and general health co-morbidities.

About the new facility

Barwon Heath’s Mental Health Drugs & Alcohol Services are actively building upon our nationally recognised reputation for innovative clinical programs and integrated models of practice that are consumer centred, accessible and family inclusive. In response to the Royal Commission, a 16 bed Older Adult Acute Mental Health is currently being developed on our McKellar site. This new contemporary designed facility has a co-designed model of care that is recovery oriented and trauma informed. It will provide clinical inpatient care for consumers aged 50 years+ with acute and sub-acute needs, with onsite facilities for outpatient appointments.

About the role

Clinical

  • Provide assessment and continuing care to consumers with a serious mental disorder
  • Assist in the screening of referrals to the Acute Unit to determine suitability for service
  • Practice in accordance with the relevant health care or industry standards

Leadership

  • Provide co-ordination, leadership and supervision of staff in the daily operations of the unit
  • Educate, guide and supervise student nurses as required
  • Act up as the NUM during short periods of absence and as required

Team

  • Join a multidisciplinary team operating within a holistic Recovery Based Model
  • Enhance communication channels with other teams to encourage seamless service delivery
  • Positions includes some rotation to nightshift depending on service requirements

Essential: Registered Nurse Div. 1 ( With Post Graduate Diploma in psychiatric/mental health nursing or completion of a specialist undergraduate psychiatric nursing program or a specialist post basic course of training leading to previous registration as a Division 3 Nurse)
Essential: Current registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulatory Agency (AHPRA)
Essential: Minimum of 2 years full time experience in adult psychiatry post qualification as a psychiatric nurse
Desirable: Experience working in older acute inpatient units and/or elderly mental health
Essential: I agree to meet Barwon Health’s immunisation requirements (including full COVID vaccination) as set out in Barwon Health’s Staff Immunisation Policy as amended from time to time.
