About the facility 

Aged Psychiatry Services are located at De Forest House which is in the grounds of the McKellar Centre North Geelong.  Care provided is community based where most clients are seen in their own environment. This service is for people over 65 years with existing complex mental illness, those who develop a mental illness later in life and those who have severe behavioural problems associated with dementia.

Services include assessment and intervention, case management, outreach and secondary consultation.

Those who require additional services to avoid a potential hospital admission may, after discussion with the client and family, be offered an Intensive Community Treatment Program.

About the role 

The role of the Clinician is to provide high quality assessment, consultation, care planning and intensive service delivery to Aged Psychiatry identified clients.

Successful applicants will have the correct qualifications in nursing, social work or psychology and registration with AHPRA. Thorough knowledge of the objectives and provisions of the Mental Health Act (2014) and its recent amendments is essential. It is desirable to have knowledge of Aged specific State and Commonwealth Legislative Acts and knowledge of relevant community’s agencies and other providers in the Barwon area.
