Position Summary
  • Occupational Therapist – Grade 2 permanent full time (80hrs/fortnight).

  • Work full time in a subacute (inpatient and community) rehabilitation setting.
  • Work with a variety of caseloads including Neuro, GEM, Orthopaedics/Amputees, Trauma, pulmonary/cardio group programs, and palliative care
  • This is the job for you as a Grade 2 at Barwon Health working in our Subacute Rehabilitation Team!
  • 80 hours per fortnight, including entitlements of weekend remuneration, ADO, professional development leave and 5 weeks Annual leave for >10 Sat shifts pa.

About the role

We have an opportunity for a passionate and experienced Grade 2 Occupational Therapist to join our subacute rehabilitation team at McKellar Centre. This role requires you to possess excellent communication skills, flexibility, accountability and the capacity to work well within a variety of teams. Leadership skills are also valued from the unique perspective of provided by a leave relief role crossing all areas of the service. This role also involves a supervision of grade 1 ‘s, AHA’s and students at times.

The successful applicant will be able to work across Neurological, GEM, Orthopaedic, Amputee, Trauma, and palliative care caseloads in both inpatient and community rehabilitation settings, to help meet service gaps as required resulting from annual leave, extended personal leave and maternity leave. Alternate Saturday shifts is required for a full time contract. Reduced Saturday requirement and part time contract is negotiable.

The Barwon Health Subacute Occupational Therapy team is a committed, dynamic, innovative team with a passion for consumer centred clinical care, service improvement and research.  We have:

  • Specialist senior clinicians in a variety of areas available for mentoring.
  • Strong partnerships with Deakin University for student education, projects, and research,
  • Successful grant applications for developing a library of assistive technology resources and use of innovative assessment and treatment modalities including SAEBO splint, TAPIT and X-Sensor pressure mapping resources which have led to a number of conference presentations, publications and external presentations.
  • Engage in multicentre Research trials such as the SENSe Implementation with the Florey Institute investigating knowledge translation for evidence based somatosensory rehabilitation post stroke

You will be part of a large community of over 100 Occupational Therapy staff. Comprehensive orientation will be provided, access to professional development is available and you will supervise junior staff and Occupational Therapy students.

The 100 bed inpatient rehabilitation facility and Community Rehabilitation Service both offer comprehensive neurological, trauma, amputee and orthopaedic rehabilitation, geriatric evaluation and management, and palliative care services. Essential: Degree in Occupational Therapist from an Australian Occupational Therapist Council accredited course & current registration as an Occupational Therapist with the Australian Health Professionals Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
Essential: Current registration as a SWEP (State-Wide Equipment Program) prescriber (minimum Green prescriber level)
Essential: Current Victorian Motor Vehicle Driver’s License.
Essential: Meets classification definitions under appropriate Award/Agreement regarding clinical experience
Essential: Demonstrated participation in professional development relevant to clinical area (subacute rehabilitation)
Desirable: Current membership with the OT Australian and other professional bodies within field of practice
