About the facility

Barwon Health Community Nursing is the largest non-metropolitan home based nursing service in Victoria. The program consists of three integrated teams based at Barwon Health’s Newcomb, Belmont and Corio Community Health Centres.

Community Nursing is a government funded program which provides home nursing services for clients under the funding streams:

  • National Disability Insurance Scheme
  • Community Palliative Care
  • Hospital in the Home
  • Post-Acute Care
  • Home and Community Care for Younger People
  • Commonwealth Home Support Program

About the role

Barwon Health would like to offer Registered Nurses interested in working in a community setting the opportunity to participate in our Specialist Year Program.

The Specialist Year Program aims to provide participants with the opportunity to experience Community Nursing in a supportive environment, develop foundational knowledge and obtain competency in essential home based nursing clinical skills.

During your time with us we will offer:

  • A 12 month full time learning program (3 positions available – Newcomb, Belmont, Corio)
  • Extensive structured orientation with an allocated preceptor
  • Ongoing professional, clinical and educational support from your preceptor/s, our Nursing Educator and your Co-ordinator
  • Supernumerary days with Community Palliative Care, Hospital in the Home and Continence Clinic
  • Professional Development leave to develop the foundational knowledge and skills specific to home based nursing
  • Regular debrief and feedback sessions

The Community Nursing Specialist Year Program commences in early February each year.
