About the service

Barwon Health's Mental Health, Drugs and Alcohol Services (MHDAS) are internationally recognised for its innovative clinical programs and integrated models of practice that are client centred, accessible and family inclusive.  Our service is currently undertaking an expansion of our psychiatric enrolled nurse workforce as we extend our operations to better meet the needs of our community and consumers. Successful applicants recruited will have the opportunity to work across our new McKellar Mental Health & Wellbeing Centre and the Swanston Adult Acute Inpatient Centre.

McKellar Mental Health and Wellbeing Unit (MK MHWBU)

The brand new, MK MHWBU is a purpose built, 16 bed Older Adult Acute Mental Health Unit that is nearing the end of completion in North Geelong. This new contemporary designed facility has a co-designed model of care that is recovery oriented and trauma informed. It will provide clinical inpatient care for mental health consumers aged 50 years and older, with acute and sub-acute needs, with onsite facilities for outpatient appointments.

Swanston Centre (SCA)

The Swanston Centre Acute Unit is a 32 bed acute psychiatric admission unit providing Recovery Orientated care delivery for people aged 18 and over, experiencing the effects of major mental illness/distress. SCA has recently undergone extensive changes with refurbishment to accommodate a new high care area, women’s wing and therapy room.

About the roles

We have 20 positions available for current Endorsed Enrolled Nurses to develop their careers as Psychiatric Enrolled Nurses. You will receive an intensive orientation into mental health, as well as ongoing support and education provided by dedicated nursing educators.

Working under the supervision of a registered psychiatric nurse, your duties will include:

• Delivery of best practice, evidence based treatment to people with emerging or established mental health difficulties.
• Being part of the multidisciplinary team operating from a Recovery Orientated perspective
• Demonstrating respect for individual’s values, customs and spiritual beliefs to ensure patient care is effective and culturally appropriate

About you:

• Recognised qualification as an Endorsed Enrolled Nurse (Level 2)
• Compliance with AHPRA registration standards
• Passion for working with people with a lived experience of mental illness & their loved ones

Enrolled nurses with previous experience in mental health settings will be highly regarded.

Please note these positions are for a mid-year intake and you must be able to start early August.
