About the facility 

The Andrew Love Cancer Centre (ALCC) is a comprehensive cancer centre that has provided expert care to those affected by cancer in Geelong and southwest Victoria in a supportive and caring environment since 1992.  

Our service gives adults living in the Barwon South West region access to world class cancer treatment.  Based in Geelong, we have state-of-the-art facilities, equipment and highly skilled health professionals who provide personalised treatment and care. Chemotherapy, haematology and radiotherapy services are provided at the Andrew Love Cancer Centre and inpatient services are provided in Baxter Wing 6 at University Hospital Geelong. Some outreach clinics are available to people living in rural areas.

About the role 

As the Staff Specialist Haematologist you will need to have detailed knowledge and experience in all aspects of clinical haematology including malignant haematology, stem cell transplantation, apheresis, and haemostasis/thrombosis and transfusion medicine.

Your main responsibilities in this role will be, but are not limited to;

  • Providing care of patients with haematological disorders  
  • Supervise advanced trainees in haematology and hospital medical officers
  • Providing leadership on the future clinical management  of patients to make sure that appropriate
  • Ensuring all work is completed proficiently and accurately in accordance with Barwon Health policies and procedures

As the successful candidate you will need to have broad experience in malignant haematology including stem cell transplantation, haemostasis and thrombosis and transfusion medicine.

Selection Criteria Essential: •Basic medical degree, registrable with the Medical Practitioners Board of Victoria.
Essential: • Sub-specialty training in clinical and laboratory haematology
Essential: • Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians or equivalent
Essential: • Fellowship of the Royal College of Pathologists of Australia or equivalent
Essential: • Specialist qualifications recognised through the National Specialist Qualifications Advisory Committee (NSQAC)
Essential: • Broad experience in malignant haematology including stem cell transplantation, haemostasis and thrombosis and transfusion medicine
Essential: • Commitment to education, training and quality improvement
Essential: • Excellent interpersonal skills
Essential: • Time management skills and an ability to prioritise workload
Essential: • Previous research experience leading to presentation and publication as well as participation in clinical trial activity.
