About the facility
Spiritual Care is integral to provision of comprehensive care at Barwon Health and plays a significant role in reducing consumers' spiritual distress and increasing spiritual wellbeing, resilience and satisfaction. Spiritual care is offered in a manner appropriate to each person, allowing the opportunity for people's concerns and hopes to be heard and explored in a respectful, trusting environment without judgment or agenda. We acknowledge the right of all people to choose to express their spirituality aware of the increasing spiritual diversity of our community where many are identifying as 'spiritual' rather than 'religious'. Our Spiritual Care team includes spiritual care staff, volunteers and accredited faith visitors.
About the role
We are seeking a spiritual carer who is a sensitive listener, professional and motivated to join a team committed to development and innovation in the provision of best practice, inclusive Spiritual Care. As the Spiritual Care Practitioner you will provide Spiritual Care to patients, residents, families, and sometimes staff with particular reference within Cancer Services. You will receive and respond to referrals as part of an on call responsibility shared with the Spiritual Care team.
You will liaise with Social Work, Nurses and Doctors to ensure patient-centred care and provide handover to Spiritual Care colleagues to ensure a high level of communication. You will be responsible for using hospital systems for referrals and documentation and will need well developed IT skills. The successful applicant will value working in a hospital-based team where inclusion and respect for all are underpinning values and be able to provide support to people from any spiritual, religious or cultural background.
