About the facility

Barwon Health, based in Geelong, Victoria, is one of the largest and most comprehensive regional health services in Australia, providing the full spectrum of care and employing over 6,500 staff. The Bellarine Centre 5 is a 34 bed combined Cardiology and Cardiothoracic unit. It consists of 6 coronary care, 18 cardiology and 10 cardiothoracic beds. The cardiology service offers a full range of diagnostic, interventional and emergency STEMI service. The Cardiothoracic unit performs a wide range of complex cardiothoracic operations. 

About the role

We are seeking suitable applicants to undertake the Cardiac Services Specialist Year 2022 (Feb intake). There will be two intakes for the Cardiac Specialist year (Feb and June). The specialist year provides Grade 2 Registered Nurses with the opportunity to explore Cardiac Nursing within a supportive clinical environment. The program consists of two components, a practical and a theoretical. Clinical support and assessment is undertaken by experienced nursing staff and/ or Clinical Nurse Educator. Clinical assessments comprises of 50% of the program and includes completion of clinical hurdles. Appraisals will be conducted at regular intervals through the year. The theoretical component will enable you to explore and develop a basic knowledge of cardiac knowledge. The component includes study day attendance, an assignment and a presentation.
