Barwon Mental Health in the home (MHHITH) is expanding its operational bed numbers. We are seeking 2x Nurse Practitioners to join this emerging specialist service which provides a complimentary treatment option for those more suited to home based care that replicates the mental health interventions that a consumer would experience in a hospital setting. This is a fantastic opportunity for a senior registered psychiatric nurse to take on clinical and leadership role within a progressive service committed to both the ongoing development of our staff and to the delivery of high quality care to our consumers.

About Mental Health Hospital in the Home (MHHITH)

A new initiative coming out of the Royal Commission, the Barwon MHHITH is one of a limited number of HITH programs being established and evaluated across the state of Victoria. The aim is to provide timely and effective, intensive treatment and support for individuals aged 16 years and older with high acuity mental health and / or AOD needs, in their home environment. The service provides 9 adult and youth acute mental health bed-equivalent packages of care and operates 24 hrs a day, 7 days a week.

About the Role

The Nurse Practitioner (NP) – MH HITH will provide evidence based care in the setting of the consumer’s own environment; in consultation with MH HITH Consultant Psychiatrists and other members of the multidisciplinary team.

The NP has specific clinical responsibilities for clinical practice within scope in relation to consumer admissions to MH HITH. Additionally, they have a clinical leadership role in the program, leading the clinical team in providing evidence based care and assisting with the development of all clinical team members.

You will be educated and authorised to function autonomously and collaboratively in an advanced and extended clinical role within your scope of practise, providing innovative and flexible health solutions. There is also the opportunity to influence and progress evidence based clinical practises and procedures as a clinical leader.

These roles will be rostered to cover the MH HITH program 7 days per week between the hours of 07.00 – 21.30hrs, focusing on evenings and weekend shifts to enhance clinical leadership outside of business hours.
