About the facility

Barwon Health’s McKellar Centre is a recently upgraded facility located only minutes from the centre of Geelong. It is situated on a vibrant community asset with parkland surrounds. The centre offers a range of rehabilitation services that enable people to make a dynamic recovery. It is a 100 bed inpatient facility offering rehabilitation in palliative care, geriatric evaluation and management, stroke, trauma, orthopaedic and amputee service. We have state-of-the-art facilities in regard to assistive technology and education facilities.

About the role

We are seeking applications from suitably experienced and qualified clinicians for the position of Allied Health Assistant, Occupational Therapy Grade 3 – Inpatient Rehabilitation.

You will be part of the Occupational Therapy inpatient rehabilitation Geriatric Evaluation Medical (GEM) team service supervised by a Grade 2 and two rotational Grade 1 Occupational Therapists. This team provides Occupational Therapy services to approximately 34 patients who are primarily adults with general medical conditions.

The role requires excellent verbal and written communication, time management and interpersonal skills and an understanding of neurological conditions and rehabilitation approaches. Ideally you will have experience in the therapeutic application of activities with patients both individually and in group settings. You will also be required to complete supportive administration tasks as delegated by therapists.

Experience in occupational therapy and in a subacute rehabilitation setting would be an advantage as would be supervisory experience with students. Demonstrable commitment to ensuring high standards of health service delivery is essential.

Selection Criteria Essential: Minimum Certificate IV in Allied Health Assistant (Occupational Therapy)
Essential: Current Victorian Driver’s Licence
Desirable: First Aid Certificate
Desirable: Current registration as a Registered Nurse
Desirable: Studying towards Certificate III or IV in Allied Health Assistant (Occupational Therapy)
Desirable: Studying towards Degree in Occupational Therapy, at least 2rd year
Desirable: Meets classification definitions under appropriate Award/Agreeme
