About the facility

The Andrew Love Cancer Centre (ALCC) is a comprehensive cancer centre that has provided expert care to those affected by cancer in Geelong and southwest Victoria in a supportive and caring environment since 1992.

ALCC Radiotherapy offers state-of-the-art treatments using Varian Truebeam and iX linear accelerators, Eclipse treatment planning system, and Aria record and verify system. Services supplied by the department includes:

  • SBRT
  • IMRT and VMAT
  • 4DCT
  • IGRT – planar kV, CBCT, and EPI
  • Knowledge based planning
  • Flattening Filter Free Beams

About the role

You will be employed within ALCC as a Radiation Oncology Medical Physics Registrar enrolled in the Australasian College of Physicists and Scientists in Engineering Medicine (ACPSEM) Training, Education and Accreditation Program (TEAP). The TEAP program is expected to take up to five years (depending on previous experience and qualifications) with employment at ALCC offered for 3-3.5 years depending on commencement of employment. During employment at ALCC, the registrar’s time will be divided between acquiring the training and knowledge necessary to complete the TEAP program, as well as assisting in the provision of a full medical physics service to the department. A further requirement of the TEAP program is the attainment of a postgraduate degree in medical physics, and time will also be provided for the registrar to achieve this if applicable.

The radiation oncology group at ALCC is a collegiate team; the physics department has an excellent relationship with all members of the various disciplines. As part of a relatively small physics department the successful applicant would find themselves in the enviable position of having very good access to education, training and hands-on work in all areas of the department. Where certain aspects of experience required by the TEAP program cannot be provided, ALCC has established relationships with other centres in Victoria to do so.

You will be involved in all aspects of radiation oncology physics: acceptance testing and commissioning of new equipment, development and carrying out of quality assurance tests, development and participation in departmental training and in-service programs, provision of clinical support, absolute calibration programs and radiation safety and protection programs.

About the culture

ALCC is a progressive centre and encourages a team environment. We are a passionate, supportive and motivated team who works cohesively together. We promote professional development in the workplace and are focussed on quality patient centred care. Our department embraces change and are constantly looking for innovative ideas to improve our service delivery.
