About the facility

Mental Health Drugs and Alcohol Services (MHDAS) provides integrated and recovery oriented assessment, treatment and community support to people of all ages within the Barwon region experiencing, or at risk of experiencing, mental health and drug & alcohol issues, and their families.

Our service is internationally recognised for its innovative clinical programs and integrated models of practice that are client centred, accessible and family inclusive. We are fortunate to enjoy terrific internal relationships and have developed excellent partnerships with the local community that provide for seamless integrated care for our clients.

About the role

As the successful mental health nursing graduate you will demonstrate a passionate approach to work within this specialised field of nursing which focuses on working with consumers to meet their recovery goals. You will consider the person's physical, psychological, social and spiritual needs, within the context of the individual's lived experience and in partnership with their family, significant others and the broader community.

In this role you will support consumers and their families during life crises and transition periods, liaising discretely and efficiently with a range of health care providers, provide information and education on mental health maintenance and restoration, coordinate care and provide talking therapy. You will be offered 3 major rotations across the spectrum of bed based services and a 4th specialty rotation and you will work as part of the multidisciplinary team in each area, with support from experienced mental health clinicians, a preceptor, a clinical supervisor, educators, our consumers and their families.

    • Name and direct contact details of two clinical referees - preferably with one from most recent mental health placement if possible but not essential
    • A 250 word statement outlining reasons for applying for Psychiatric Graduate Year Program at Barwon Mental Health, Drugs and Alcohol Service, in particular why you as the applicant is choosing to define a professional pathway into mental health, this can be uploaded as a free text document.
