About the facility

Mental Health Drugs and Alcohol Services (MHDAS) provides mental health treatment and care to people of all ages in the Barwon region. The Swanston Centre Acute Unit is a 32 bed adult inpatient unit. The Lived Experience Program at MHDAS is undergoing expansion with many exciting new peer programs on the horizon.

About the role

Are you interested in supporting other mental health carers? Would you like to support carers and families when their loved one has a mental health inpatient admission? Then join the dedicated Lived Experience team at the Mental Health, Drugs and Alcohol Service (MHDAS) at Barwon Health, Geelong.

Utilising your lived experience of being a mental health carer, you will support family members and significant others when they visit the Swanston Centre Acute Unit. The role includes connection through shared lived experience, supportive listening/debriefing, carer education and the enabling of positive carer connections with the clinical service. You will provide support to carers during and after admission, during discharge planning and post discharge, in order to improve relationships within the family unit and to improve carer wellbeing.
