About the facility 

Formed in 1998, Barwon Health is one of the largest and most comprehensive regional health services in Australia, providing care at all stages of life and circumstance. Health services available through Barwon Health cover the full spectrum from primary care, community services, aged care, rehabilitation, mental health, emergency and acute care. With the exception of neurosurgery and transplantation, virtually all other specialties are available through University Hospital Geelong. Barwon Health Social Workers provide services to inpatient (University Hospital Geelong and McKellar Centre), outpatient and community programs.

About the role 

As the Grade 1 Social Worker you will be required to provide quality care to clients through use of competent clinical skills, effective communication, and active participation within the Social Work service and multidisciplinary teams. 

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Sound theoretical knowledge and the ability to apply that knowledge
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Skills in the effective participation in a multi-disciplinary team  and in working as a member of  the social work team
  • Skills in conducting investigative literature searches.
  • Participation in a variety of tasks, as delegated, commensurate with experience

Selection Criteria Essential: An AASW accredited Bachelor Degree or entry level Master’s Degree of Social Work that provides eligibility for membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers.
Desirable: Current AASW CPE accreditation.
Desirable: Understanding of health care systems.
Desirable: Knowledge of a clinical area relevant to the position.
Essential: Sound theoretical knowledge and the ability to apply that knowledge
Essential: skills in the effective participation in a multi-disciplinary team and in working as a member of the social work team
Essential: The ability to maintain effective work relationships and clinical effectiveness in an environment which is often pressured and characterised by competing demands
