About the facility

The Barwon Health Mental Health Drug & Alcohol Services (BMHDAS) provide intensive assessment, treatment and community support to the Barwon region for people experiencing, or at risk of experiencing, mental health and drug & alcohol issues, and their families. BMHDAS facility has an acute unit with 32 beds and provides care from Mental Health teams located through Geelong and Colac for people with Mental Health problems and substance abuse Issues.

About the role

As a Registered Psychiatric Nurse (RPN), you have the responsibility of providing high quality, best practice direct delivery of psychiatric treatment and care to consumers within the Swanston Centre; as part of a multidisciplinary team which operates within a holistic Recovery Based Model. On a Day to day basis, you will have provision of nursing care to consumers and families via the Primary Nursing Model, as well as liaise with community teams and external organisations in relation to client issues. You will undertake assessments of mental state and behaviour, and develop, implement and review management plans which are consumer focused and based around thorough risk assessments.

Selection Criteria Essential: Applicants without the post graduate mental health component may still apply but would only be considered if prepared to undertake and successfully complete recognised training within two years of the commencement date for the position to remain ongoing
Essential: Registered Nurse Div. 1 ( With Post Graduate Diploma in psychiatric/mental health nursing or completion of a specialist undergraduate psychiatric nursing program or a specialist post basic course of training leading to previous registration as a Division 3 Nurse)
Essential: Current registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulatory Agency (AHPRA)
