About the role 

Barwon Health Palliative Care is a multi-disciplinary team that provides services and support to people with life-limiting illness, and their families, at University Hospital Geelong, a 16-bed Palliative care Inpatient Unit at The McKellar Centre, and in people’s homes.

Palliative Care Registrars become part of the multi-disciplinary team, with a key role in ensuring that symptom control and medical management are optimal. Registrars are encouraged to undertake further education including the Diploma in Palliative Medicine (RACP).  Support from senior Medical Specialist staff is accessible at all times. Duties include a 1 in 3 after-hours on-call roster.

We are seeking a suitably qualified applicant to join our team on a 6 month temporary contract to fulfil the role of Sub Regional Palliative Care Registrar. This role includes the provision of symptom control and medical management on a consultancy basis within the Barwon sub region.

Essential: Bachelor of Medicine/Bachelor of Surgery (or equivalent) either in Australia or if at an Overseas University, completed both parts of the Australian Medical Council exams
Desirable: intention / interest to train to become an Palliative Medicine Physician OR gain experience for related speciality (General Practice or Oncological Speciality) OR study for Post-graduate Diploma in Palliative Medicine
