About Barwon Health’s Ward/Units

Our acute medical and surgical wards are located across two buildings and include the following:

University Hospital Geelong

1)      Emergency department (ED)- has both an Adult and Paediatric Short Stay Unit and has dedicated areas including fast track, adult, paediatric, trauma and mental health areas.

2)      Heath Wing 2 (HW2) – 18 bed neurology and stroke unit.

3)      Bellarine Centre 6 North (BC6N) – 28 bed renal and general medical ward with 5 medical day stay chairs.

4)      Baxter 7 (Bax 7) – 32 bed general medicine, endocrinology and infectious diseases unit.

5)      Heath Wing 7 (HW7) – 32 bed general medicine and respiratory ward.

6)      Birdsey Wing 7 (BW7) – A new 16 bed medical gastroenterology ward currently recruiting staff to commence operations in 2023.

7)      Heath Wing 6 (HW6) – 32 bed General Surgical, Urology and Colorectal

8)      Heath Wing 5 (HW5) –28 bed Gynaecological, Vascular, Oral faciomaxillary, ENT and Plastics Surgery.

9)      Heath Wing 4 (HW4)– 16 bed Short Stay emergency Surgical

10)   Baxter Wing 5 (BW5)– 32 bed Orthopaedic

11)   Main Operating Theatre (Operational 24 Hrs/ day) Barwon Health provide a 24 hour service to the community across 10 Operating Theatres. We not only provide access for Elective Surgery but also Semi Urgent and Emergency procedures. The specialities include Cardiothoracic, ENT, Gastroenterology, General Surgery,  Gynaecology and Obstetrics, Oral Faciomaxillary, Plastics, Orthopaedics, Ophthalmology, Urology, Vascular and Robotic Surgery. You may also be working in Satellite areas that include CathLab, MRI and Medical Imaging.

Young Surgical Centre

1)      Youang Surgical Centre Level 2 (YSC2L2) –24 bed short stay surgical unit.

2)      Rapid Assessment and Planning Unit (RAPU) – 16 bed short stay medical unit.

3)      Gretta Volum Centre (GVC) and Youang Surgery Centre (YSC) (Operational Monday-Friday 0700-2000Hrs). Both YSC and GVC work collaboratively to provide care for patients undergoing Elective surgery at Barwon Health. GVC consists of 2 theatres and 1 endoscopy suite, caring for patients requiring Endoscopy, Pain management, Ophthalmology, ECT, ENT, General Surgery or Urology services. Youang Surgery Centre has 4 theatres and cares for patients requiring Gynaecology, Urology, general surgery, Vascular, ENT services.

About you

 As the successful applicant you will:

• Have minimum 12 months of clinical experience,
• Have excellent time management, communication and interpersonal skills.
• Demonstrate sound clinical knowledge and excellent clinical skills,
• Provide evidence based, high quality care to patients.
• Delivering consumer-centred care that meets best practice standards and in line with Barwon Health requirements
