About the service

Barwon Health’s Mental Health, Drugs and Alcohol Services and Colac Area Health, in collaboration with other local Colac partners, are establishing a new headspace centre for young people in the Colac/Otway region experiencing early symptoms of mental health disorders and common co-occurring difficulties.

The new Colac centre will act as a ‘one-stop shop’ for young people (aged 12-25 years old) in the community with mental health and wellbeing concerns. It will provide no (or low) cost, youth friendly, holistic care across the headspace four core streams: Mental Health, physical and sexual health, alcohol and other drugs and vocational training/educational support. The centre will prioritise providing and tailoring services to young people at-risk and in the early stages of their condition.

About the role

As the successful applicant, you will be committed to delivering high quality primary mental health and AOD interventions for young people aged 12-25 with mental health and wellbeing concerns. You will work closely with a multidisciplinary team, consisting of general practitioners (GPs), allied health and nursing staff to facilitate the provision of coordinated clinical care and treatment.

The key objectives of this role are:

  • To intake, assess, engage, screen, coordinate care and provide counselling services to young people
  • To discuss and direct to other service linkages outside headspace as required
  • To participate in supporting a timely, responsive and efficient youth mental health counselling service

Please note the FTE for this role is negotiable to suit your own personal and professional goals (0.3 FTE minimum and up to 0.6FTE). You will have the opportunity to guaranteed public health work and maintain private practice from the same space (Colac Youth Hub).
