About the facility

Mental Health, Drug & Alcohol Services (MHDAS) provides integrated and recovery oriented mental health, and drugs and alcohol assessment, treatment and support to people of all ages and their families within the Barwon region experiencing, or at risk of experiencing, mental health and drug & alcohol issues.

About the role

Fixed term, part time 32 hours per fortnight until 9 October 2019.

Barwon Health is seeking a senior clinician with extensive experience in forensic mental health and leadership to deliver the Forensic Clinical Specialist (FCS) position. The FCS will take the lead role in building capacity within the mental health workforce to work with consumers with complex risk, mental health, forensic and problem behaviours presentations and histories. Leadership in organisational quality improvement and service development, and promotion of strong collaborative networks between mental health and justice services are other key responsibilities of the role.

We are seeking either:

  • Gr 4 Social Worker, Psychologist, or Occupational Therapist
  • Gr 5 Psychiatric Nurse

Essential: Formal tertiary qualifications in the areas of psychiatric nursing (Div 1), psychology, social work or occupational therapy, including relevant professional registration as necessary
Essential: Expertise in forensic mental health assessment and treatment and extensive clinical experience in relevant mental health and forensic settings
Essential: Specialist knowledge of evidence based risk assessment and management tools, and recovery oriented practice
Essential: Thorough knowledge of the Mental Health Act (Vic) 2014 and Crimes (Mental Impairment and Unfitness to Be Tried) Act (Vic) 1997 and other relevant legislation
Essential: Demonstrated ability to work autonomously and achieve activity targets and key performance indicators
Essential: Highly developed leadership skills with respect to engagement, capacity building and facilitating change
Essential: Highly developed interpersonal and written and verbal communication skills including the ability to effectively consult, liaise and negotiate with a range of stakeholders and service providers
