About the facility

Barwon health is the major regional health provider for the Barwon South West region. It is Victoria’s largest regional health service with one of the busiest hospitals in the state, University Hospital. The Child Health Research Unit (CHRU) led by A/Prof Peter Vuillermin is made up of multidisciplinary team of clinical researchers who are passionate about child health and are committed to the generation of new knowledge on the best way to provide babies and children with a healthy start to life. Two significant research projects are run through the CHRU; the Barwon Infant Study & ENDIA.

About the role 

This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced paediatric phlebotomist to join the Child Health Research Unit at University Hospital, Geelong as a Research Assistant (Phlebotomist). The successful applicant will play a crucial role in two large-scale & internationally significant research projects; the Barwon Infant Study & ENDIA. Working as part of a multidisciplinary team in a clinical research environment, the successful candidate will have extensive experience in paediatric phlebotomy (in particular demonstrated experience bleeding neonates, infants and/or preschool age children). Our team is passionate about child health and seek a like-minded individual with good people skills, particularly good with children, a bubbly disposition, someone who is comfortable with clinical procedures, enthusiastic about the challenge of learning new technical/research skills and who enjoys a busy, team environment. The Research Assistant (Phlebotomist) will play a key role in identification, delivery and evaluation of research outcomes for ENDIA & BIS. They will work in collaboration with other health professionals and agencies in partnership with children and their families to ensure optimum production of high quality and health-oriented research data.

Selection Criteria Essential: Certificate III in Pathology Collection
Essential: Must have experience in paediatric venepuncture (particularly with neonates, infants and preschool age children).
Desirable: Qualification in nursing or related health science field is desirable but not essential
