Barwon Mental Health in the home (MHHITH) is expanding its operational bed numbers. We are seeking 5 x Registered Psychiatric Nursers (Grade 3) to join this emerging specialist service which provides a complimentary treatment option for those more suited to home base care that replicates the mental health interventions that a consumer would experience in a hospital setting.
You will join our tertiary level multidisciplinary mental health drug and alcohol team that works across a rotating roster to deliver this new model of acute mental health care to the Barwon community. We are fortunate to enjoy terrific internal relationships and have developed excellent partnerships with the local community that provide for seamless integrated care for our clients within the home environment.
About our organisation
Sitting within one of Victoria’s six regional health centres, Barwon Health serves the community of Greater Geelong and beyond. We serve over 500,000 people through the efforts of over 8,000 staff and more than 1200 volunteers. Our Mental Health Drugs & Alcohol Service is entering a new phase of co-design of our service system with people who access our services and our wider community. This will build on our nationally recognized unique cultural approach to the challenges of recovery oriented service delivery to redesign our service system.

About Mental Health Hospital in the Home (MHHITH) Service
A new initiative coming out of the Royal Commission, the Barwon MHHITH is one of a limited number of HITH programs being established and evaluated across the state of Victoria. The aim is to provide timely and effective, intensive treatment and support for individuals aged 16 years and older with high acuity mental health and / or AOD needs, in their home environment. The service provides 9 adult and youth acute mental health bed-equivalent packages of care and operates 24 hrs a day, 7 days a week.
About the Role
We are seeking dynamic, highly motivated senior clinicians to be part of our Mental Health Hospital in the Home Service. You will provide acute community mental health treatment for people in the acute phase of their mental illness and demonstrate leadership in both the day-day leading of shifts, and the ongoing development of the service.
To be successful in this role, you will possess the following skills:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- A strong understanding of your own personal and professional values
- Demonstrated acute mental health clinical experience in acute community and / or inpatient settings
