About the Organisation

Barwon Health is the major regional health provider for the Barwon South West region. It is Victoria’s largest regional health service with one of the busiest hospitals in the state:  University Hospital Geelong serve over 500,000 people through the efforts of over 7,000 staff and more than 1000 volunteers. We provide care at all stages or life and circumstance through a wide range of services from emergency and acute to mental health, primary care, community services, aged care, and subacute/rehabilitation. Care is provided to the community through over 24 key locations throughout the region.  


The South West Alliance of Rural Health (SWARH) was formed in late 1997 to focus on the development of IT for the Acute Public Hospitals in the South West Region of Victoria. Through the SWARH Alliance  group of Chief Executive Officers and Hospital Council of Governors have the capacity to invest in technology to improve service delivery

About the role

The Chief Information Officer (CIO) for SWARH reports into the Barwon Health Chief Executive Officer (CEO). The CIO will provide an organisational vision and bring leadership to SWARH enabling achievement of the alliance’s strategic and operational objectives.  As the CIO you will direct the strategic and operational planning and implementation of ICT systems and people to maximise operational effectiveness and productivity across all member agencies. A large function of the CIO role will see partnerships with the diverse membership and customer base in the region.

The SWARH team is located across the south west region including Geelong, Warrnambool, Portland, Colac, Lorne, Terang and Mortlake, Timboon, Balmoral, Otway, Hamilton, Camperdown, Macarthur and Lismore.
