About the facility

Barwon Health, Central Resource Unit (CRU) provides emergent and non-emergent nursing staff replacement for all bed based services. We provide staffing resources to meet every day operational needs of clinical units for nursing and support staff for bed based units across Barwon Health.

About the role 

Work collaboratively with Barwon Health staff in utilising the organisational patient management IT systems to ensure that patients move from the emergency department as soon as they are clinically ready.

You will be responsible for:

  • Triaging and managing referrals for urgent/semi urgent inpatient access to Barwon Health beds according to clinical need
  • The allocation of patients in ED information management system into appropriate units.  Negotiating and facilitating timely patient movement.
  • Ensuring inpatient beds are utilised in a planned way making every effort to admit patients to their speciality area.
  • Delegated responsibility for the implementation of agreed (with DOC) contingency plans to address access block, e.g. opening beds, extra staffing etc.
  • Negotiation with Medical Teams and Referring Hospital to facilitate admissions of patients in a safe and timely manner.
  • Managing access into beds as required from the ESWL, emergency surgery bed requests, ED bed requests, ICU/CCU/ARV incoming and outgoing, medical wait list bed requests, transfers from other hospitals and direct admission bed requests.
  • Organising repatriation between wards to meet access demands, specialist clinical requirements and safe patient care.
