About the facility
As the acute care facility of Barwon Health, University Hospital Geelong is the major provider of health services to the 290,000 people of Greater Geelong & the 500,000 people of the Barwon South-Western region. The hospital has 434 beds and treats approximately 70,000 inpatients.
The Operating Suite comprises ten operating rooms conducting a wide range of surgery. The Gretta Volum Day Stay Centre comprises two operating rooms and one endoscopy room.
Over 20,800 operative procedures are performed annually. The Division of Surgery is headed by a Professor of Surgery, and the Department of Anaesthetics is headed by an Associate Professor of Perioperative Medicine and Pain Management.
About the role
Two part-time (66.5 hours each) positions on a fixed term contract in the Operating Suite are available. The clinical component of the course is undertaken in the perioperative areas of University Hospital Geelong with specific objectives and assessments.
Deakin University administers the theoretical component of the course. Candidates must apply for Master of Nursing Practice H771 (Perioperative) and may exit at Graduate Certificate level. The 12 month course commences in February 2017 with rostered annual leave included. The Introductory one week Study Block will be held in early February at Deakin Burwood. Academic leave (pro-rata of rostered clinical hours) during the university semesters is in addition to the rostered clinical hours.
