Barwon Health’s Mental Health Hospital in the Home (MHHITH) is in its final stage of expansion as it increases bed numbers. We are seeking multiple Registered Psychiatric Nurses to join this emerging specialist service which provides complimentary treatment for those more suited to home based care, whilst replicating the mental health interventions that a consumer would experience in a hospital setting.

Our Mental Health Drugs & Alcohol Service is entering a new phase of co-design of our service system with people who access our services and our wider community. Our service is internationally recognised for its innovative clinical programs and integrated models of practice that are client centred, accessible and family inclusive.

About the service - Mental Health Hospital in the Home (MHHITH)

A new initiative coming out of the Royal Commission, the Barwon MHHITH is one of a limited number of HITH programs being established and evaluated across the state of Victoria. The aim is to provide timely and effective, intensive treatment and support for individuals aged 16 years and older with high acuity mental health and / or AOD needs, in their home environment. The service provides 9 adult and youth acute mental health bed-equivalent packages of care and operates 24 hrs a day, 7 days a week.

About the role

We are seeking dynamic, highly motivated registered psychiatric nurses to be part of our Mental Health Hospital in the Home Service. You will provide acute community mental health treatment for consumers in the acute phase of their mental illness and demonstrate leadership in both the day-day leading of shifts, as well as the ongoing development of the service. To be successful in this role, you will possess the following skills:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • A strong understanding of your own personal and professional values
  • Demonstrated acute mental health clinical experience in acute community and / or inpatient settings

You will join a tertiary level multidisciplinary mental health drug and alcohol team that works across a rotating roster to deliver this new model of acute mental health care to the Barwon community.

About the culture

This is a new service within the established Mental Health Acute Intervention Services team.
