It is one of Victoria’s largest regional health service with one of the busiest hospitals in the state, University Hospital. About the role

The Deputy Chief Medical Officer is the senior support to the Chief Medical Officer to assist with all functions of that role and specific provision of support to the Barwon South West region in medical leadership and administration. This role will play a key part in providing regional support in building efficiencies across the region as part of the BSW Rural and Regional Health Partnership project.

Your responsibilities include:

  • actively participating  in recruitment, appointment, credentialing, clinical privileging and performance appraisal of senior medical staff
  • provide efficiencies across the region in all facets of medical administration
  • participation in state-wide safety and quality working groups and initiatives
  • in clinical emergencies provide leadership, advice, support, follow-up as relevant to the situation
  • provide support and leadership with Medico-legal issues in relation to patient care, clinical practice and associated activities and reporting
  • collaboration with the Clinical safety team to analyse adverse events, conduct case reviews and RCA’s as appropriate.
  • providing advice and support to the Occupational Health & Safety, Infection prevention and similar services when advice and support may be required
  • developing and maintaining a clinical learning environment
  • contributing to collaborative arrangements with universities and other teaching facilities with a specific focus on training and education.
  • Promotion of excellence in health care, and collaboration in education and research across all disciplines within Barwon Health in liaison with other key stakeholders
  • Oversight of Barwon Health’s research activities ensuring appropriate administrative and audit procedures are followed and an ethics approval process is in place
