About the facility

The Otolaryngology (ENT) Team in Geelong is a growing and enthusiastic group comprising eight consultants, three registrars and one resident, working in close conjunction with allied health and related specialties to deliver services covering all aspects of otolaryngology including advanced head and neck cancer management. With up to ten operating lists within any given week, multiple supervised outpatients clinics and opportunities for research, the Unaccredited ENT Registrar positions bring great opportunities to an aspiring ENT surgeon.

About the role

You will participate in the on-call roster, further exposing you to assessment and management of a range of patients of all ages. The Unaccredited Registrars have regular lists allocated specifically to them giving excellent opportunities for hands-on, supervised operating. A large portion of the caseload managed by the Geelong ENT team is paediatric - from routine grommets and adenotonsillectomies to the assessment of neonates and management of paediatric airway emergencies - which gives great exposure to a registrar hoping to pursue a career in ENT.

The unit coordinates a weekly Head and Neck Multidisciplinary Meeting which one of the Unaccredited ENT Registrar prepares and presents, in conjunction with the Head and Neck Cancer nurse coordinator and the Accredited ENT Registrar.  A brand range of thyroid and parathyroid cases are managed by the ENT team, in conjunction with the Endocrine Unit and co-ordinated through regular Endocrine Multidisciplinary meetings. Regular ENT tutorials conducted by the consultants of the unit, along with pathology and radiology ENT teaching sessions will further develop your understanding of the discipline.

The position is for twelve months, however for the purpose of application to the RACS ENT training program, will be considered as two six-month terms by the College.
