In this new era of mental health service reform, Barwon Health’s MHDAS are transforming our services and we are seeking mental health professionals who are curious, passionate, and eager to advance their career. Our Mental Health Drugs and Alcohol Service is currently recruiting the nursing leadership team for our brand new McKellar Mental Health & Wellbeing Unit. This 16 bed unit (opening September), will provide specialised mental health care for independent adults (50 years+), including those with complex mental health and general health co-morbidities.
About the new facility
Barwon Heath’s Mental Health Drugs & Alcohol Services are actively building upon our nationally recognised reputation for innovative clinical programs and integrated models of practice that are consumer centred, accessible and family inclusive. In response to the Royal Commission, a 16 bed Older Adult Acute Mental Health is nearing completion in North Geelong.
This new purpose built facility has a co-designed model of care that is recovery oriented and trauma informed. It will provide clinical inpatient care for consumers aged 50 years+ with acute and sub-acute needs, with onsite facilities for outpatient appointments.
About the roles
Associate Nurse Unit Manager (Grade 3) – Multiple Full Time and Part Time roles available
Clinical
- Practice using a new model of care reflecting the Royal Commission’s recommendations
- Provide assessment and continuing care to consumers with a serious mental disorder
- Work with least restrictive practices, providing therapeutic engagement to consumers
Leadership
- Provide co-ordination, leadership and supervision of staff in the daily operations of the unit
- Educate, guide and supervise student nurses as required
- Act up as the NUM during short periods of absence and as required
Team
- Join a multidisciplinary staffing profile, operating within a holistic Recovery Based Model
- Enhance communication channels with other teams to encourage seamless service delivery
- Positions includes some rotation to nightshift depending on service requirements
Clinical Nurse Specialist (Grade 4) – 1 x Permanent Full Time role available (part time negotiable)
As the successful applicant you will work alongside the NUM and ANUMs, with a primary focus of improving clinical services for consumers and contributing to the training and development of nursing staff regarding the speciality area. Core duties of your role will include:
- Providing clinical leadership/expertise to influence the quality of care within the centre
- Ensuring that service delivery is contemporary, recovery oriented, family/carer inclusive
- Undertaking direct client care/assessments in conjunction with other nursing staff
- Supporting the NUM and ANUMs in operational and clinical leadership issues
- Reducing restrictive interventions (RRI)
Please note the RPN4 positions do not hold operational or professional responsibility for the ward and are rostered am and pm shifts, 7 days a week (no night shift).
